Objets d’Art

Traditionally known as the art of repairing pottery and ceramic dishes, Kintsugi is closely related to the practice of joinery and a philosophy that celebrates imperfections as a source of history and provenance . Through loss and grief and loyalty and dedication and discipline, Kintsugi allows that which is damaged by time and entropy to be transmuted into family heirlooms and objects d’Art. We take on select works at our kintsugi studio as commissions, and will repair that irreplaceable object so you don’t have to navigate years and decades of grief and learn the craft of repair yourself.

Objets de la Science Folle

Traditionally understood as the repair of ceramics; our Appalachian sensibilities understand the essence of Kintsugi as a form of joinery, and closely related to the practice of welding. Here at Industrial Kintsugi, we operate a PrimeWeld TIG 225 welder, capable of working with a wide variety of metals, including carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, copper, bronze, gold, silver, titanium, and other metals. We are currently taking commissions for metal sculptures, mutant vehicles, container homes, scientific prototypes, and more.

Objets de la Cybernétique

Industrial Kintsugi also offers cybernetics prototyping and repair - specifically focusing on data interoperability, medical device integrations, large language models, and product prototyping and development. In some sense, medicine and healthcare is a type of repair of the human body; and data interoperability is the glue that joins healthcare systems together. With 20yrs experience in Biomedical Informatics, we take commissions on developing healthcare apps, medical devices, and services. Our business roadmap is to move into biomedical welding, with custom fabrication of ambulances, mobile medical clinics, surgical instruments, prosthetics, and the like.

Our ethos

The Rust Belt knows a thing or two about broken dreams, and lifting oneself back up and getting back in the saddle.

In a world of planned obsolesce that wants you in debt slavery, we believe in the Right to Repair.

Industrial Kintsugi offers bespoke kintsugi and fabrication services to the Ohio River Valley and Greater Appalachia.

We repair busted stuff.  Restore antiques. Create family heirlooms.  We fabricate things that can be repaired.  We write open-source software.

But more than that… we understand having a dream and that flights of fancy can lead to beautiful things.
